The goal of On Pointe Dance Studio is to provide students of all ages the most positive and exciting dance experience while delivering the skills and technique needed to enjoy dance for a lifetime! On Pointe Dance Studio offers a complete dance curriculum for all ages and abilities. We stress proper technique and performance with classes ranging from the specialized program for pre-schoolers to tap, jazz, acrobatics, and ballet on advanced levels. Our professional staff offers over 30 years of experience on all levels.

Dance Styles & Policies

Ballet - Ballet is the foundation for all forms of dance. It is essential to the development of poise, grace, balance and discipline required to become an excellent dancer. Ballet classes combine French and Italian technique and terminology. Students build foundation through barre exercises, centre work, waltz rhythms, across the floor allegros, and centre adagio combinations. Ballet classes at On Pointe focus on increasing strength while allowing students to develop balance, poise, classical lines, and artistic expression. Students must wear leotard and tights and have pink ballet shoes. Hair must be worn away from the face.

Tap - Tap class will consist of fundamental rhythms and proper tap technique. Tap Dance focuses on the interpretation and progression of various rhythms and sounds. Other techniques such as turns, jumps, and smooth footwork are also incorporated. Elementary classes will be required to wear Mary Jane style tap shoes. Intermediate and advanced classes will be required to wear jazz taps.

Jazz - To excel in jazz dance, dancers must master ballet technique because it consists of slower movements that strengthens the body and improves balance. Jazz dancers' strong and sharp movements are also aided by ballet technique. Jazz dance can take many different paths. It is often competed in large groups in its more traditional form, but can also cross over into other styles of dance to be lyrical, contemporary, or hip-hop. Jazz classes at On Pointe incorporate the techniques of many great jazz masters and choreographers. Jazz combinations reflect the work of choreographers such as Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Mia Michaels, and Tyce Diorio. Our classes are a wonderful combination of traditional, contemporary, and unique jazz forms and styles.

Acrobatics - Acrobatics consists of beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of tumbling, stressing flexibility, control, and strength. The Tumbling/Acrobatics classes at On Pointe teach beginning to advanced exercises such as forward and back rolls, dive rolls, hand stands, front and back limbers, cartwheels, round-offs, back hand springs, back walk-overs, aerials and many more! The class begins with warm-up and stretching before working on acrobatic tricks. This is a great class for any dancer looking to become more multi-dimensional, and students that may need to know passes for a certain group (e.g. cheerleading). Students must wear dance attire, no loose fitted-clothing allowed. Hair must be worn away from the face.

Hip Hop - Hip Hop classes incorporate the fundamentals of contemporary funk through various popping, breaking, and flexing techniques. All warm-ups include stretches emphasizing strength, isolations, flexibility, endurance, and musicality. Dance choreography is influenced by music videos, films, and urban dance styles.

News and Information
A monthly newsletter will be sent home with the students. It will be full of important information and news on the latest happenings at On Pointe. Please pay careful attention to these newsletters! There are also bulletin boards in the lobby of the studio that contain information related to each individual class. Remember to also check these boards for the latest news! We know the importance of keeping everyone up to date!

Class Schedule Changes
On Pointe Dance Studio follows the Johnson City School Schedule. Parents will be notified in advance of any holiday closings. We also follow the Johnson City School Schedule as it applies to closing for inclement weather.

Tuition
Payments for your child's tuition are due the first week of every month. After the 10th of every month there will be a late fee charged to the account. Please let our office manager know of any questions that you may have regarding tuition and payments.

Visitors
To limit the amount of distraction to our hard-working dancers, there will be no visitors allowed in any class. There will be a special week when visitors will be allowed in the class to observe their dancers, and you will be notifiied of this week in advance.

Costumes
Costumes will be required for any dancer participating in the Spring Recital. Costume deposits will be required to be paid before the students leave for Christmas Break. After January 1st, costume depostits are non-refundable.

Recital
Our recital will be held in the spring of every year! This is a great opportunity for the dancers to gain stage presence and develop confidence in their abilities. This is a very important time in the students training, as it is the chance for you to see and appreciate the advancement of your child's performance.

Rules
Each student is expected to follow the rules established by the studio and their instructor. The student should always listen and respect their instructor and their classmates, or the appropriate action will occur. It is the responsibility of the instructor to teach all of their students efficiently and effectively. This is why we stress the incredible importance of each student following the rules.

Dance shoes will be available for purchase from On Pointe Dance Studio. This will assure that each student receives the proper size and style shoe for each class enrolled.
